It is terrible. I have basically learned nothing from it

Im in calc 3 and have been using this book since calc 1, they just came out with a new one for calc 3 that we are using. It is terrible. I have basically learned nothing from it. I am an A student and I have had to learn everything from the internet as my school insists on using this book because it is free electronically. Im glad they are looking out for us financially but this book is worthless. You can tell they are trying to make you think conceptually but they just aren't good at it. When given problems the instructions just aren't clear enough. They fail giving the student a step by step approach to problems. Oh and no solutions so you cant check your work. Fail, it pisses me off every time we use it, I want to print it off just so I can burn it.

As a student at Grand Valley St Univ. in the calculus classes this was the book to get. There is an electronic version that if for free download and it is the same exact thing except the electronic version has colors in it. Having this book for calculus 1 and 2 i recognized many things that not only I didn't like but also my classmates and professors. First off, this book definitely doesn't have enough examples. This book will run through a problem with new skills and steps that you just need to pick up on. The description in some of the chapters are vague and definitely leave you to google it or just figure it out by yourself. On top of all of that, many of the instructions for what to do with certain problems or graphs are also vary vague and not at all descriptive enough.
If you are in calculus at this school you must get this book in one way or another but I would recommend just doing the electronic version. If you wanted this for future reference or anything like that it isn't worth it at all.
