Fascinating, though it ends badly
By oldtaku
The first four parts of this book are absolutely fascinating. It's an in depth look at the psychology of shopping and it is exactly what the title promises. Underhill's company gets paid to spy on people in stores and see what they're doing wrong and right. The gems in this book are the anecdotes and the specific revelations about how any obstacle you put in the way of a shopper drops your sales figures. Any way you can make life easier raises your sales. This all seems sort of obvious, but most people running the businesses don't think it through.

One example is the entry zone at the front of the store - you'd think that's a prime location for signage, deals, brochures, etc. But when you're headed through the door into the store you see almost nothing and stop for almost nothing, and then (in America) you tend to drift to the right and then you're 'in' the store. If you put a store directory just inside the door, nobody uses it. Move it back a bit so you can find it once you're into the store and suddenly it's heavily utilized. He has hard observational data for all these, so they're compelling in addition to being fascinating.

And of course all the bad examples are great fun to read (seniors crawling along floors trying to read labels on badly shelved medicine), as are the descriptions of how different groups shop (male vs female, old vs young, parents vs. single, etc.) The whole book is pretty much a commercial for Underhill's company, but it's still informative and fun reading.

Where the book falls down is at the end, where a chapter on the Internet is shoehorned in and a perfunctory shout out to each of Envirosell's worldwide branches is included.

Even though I think he's more right than wrong, the whole Internet chapter comes across as a confused old guy muttering about how he doesn't get that new fangled rock music. He complains about how many review sites there are, for instance, and has no idea how much it can transform the shopping experience (and not just be a poor supplement). Worse, the book's entire premise is mostly about how you need observational data of real customers because they'll always do things you don't expect (can't argue there), but he HAS no data on this topic, so it's just not compelling. I can't help but think the whole chapter is just in there because 'we need something about teh intertubes'.

The 'Come Fly With Me' chapter must be in here because he needs to professionally backscratch all his international partners. It's pretty much useless and turns a mild commercial into an infomercial.

If I sound too negative, please don't take it that way - I'm just trying to tell you why this isn't a five star book. You have 220 pages of 'awesome and can't put it down' book followed by 40 pages of 'what the hell am I doing reading this' slog, then another 30 pages of fairly decent reading. If you don't read those two chapters, it's a five star book!

I don't advise this book! Save your money & keep looking!
By Claire L.
I bought this book for my niece who is majoring in Marketing and Communications at Boston College. I decided to read it before I gave it to her. It was such a big disappointment!! I'm so sorry I bought it. To me, it seems like the author used it as a marketing tool to sell his own business services. It is very, very drawn out. He takes several pages to say something that can be said in a sentence or two. He keeps bragging about himself, but most of what he says and does can be done by any logical, analytical, intelligent person. I worked in retailing for 4 years while attending college and already knew most of what he wrote in this book. Again, too many pages, too little taught!! Save your money. There are much better books out there!

CAVEAT EMPTOR
By Molly's Mom
Much of Paco Underhill's language and several of his references were so outdated and even "corny" that I couldn't shake the feeling that I was listening to an assessment of 1966 shopping trends.

Upon closer examination, I see that the book appears to have been published in 2000 while the audio version of the book appears to have been released in 2008. In the much accelerated context of information and technology, practically speaking, any market analysis that's 17 years old IS in fact, ancient history. I wish I could get my money back as this is a perfect case of Caveat Emptor.

Insightful and inspiring John Alvin retrospective
By Parka
[[VIDEOID:mo2JZ9WM77CHW4J]]When it comes to movie poster illustrations, John Alvin and Drew Struzan are among the best.

The Art of John Alvin is a wonderful retrospective and tribute to the late artist who passed away in 2008.

This 160-page hardcover collects the movie posters he has created from 1974 to 1999 plus a special commissioned piece completed in 2007. The artworks includes the finished posters, preliminary sketches, colour drafts and many unused never seen before art.

The reproduction of the artworks is very well done. Many are printed huge and given the full page treatment they deserve. The completed movie poster illustrations are beautiful, and even the sketches are quite a joy to look at as some of them are really detailed.

John Alvin's foray into illustrating movie posters started in 1974 with Blazing Saddles. Soon after that, he got called up to create many more, such as for Blade Runner, Return of the Jedi. E.T., Willow, Batman, Batman Returns, Jurassic Park, several Disney classics such as Pinocchio, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and many more other movies.

Each movie he worked on comes with several sketches, finished coloured illustrations and the final actual poster. For Jurassic Park there were more than a dozen rough drawings and colour layouts.

The artworks are all accompanied commentary that includes the story behind the posters, on how he got the job, conceptualising and even the techniques he used to create the illustrations. The behind the scenes stories are all provided by his wife Andrea Alvin who works alongside him in his studio. No wonder the writeup is so informative and detailed.

It's nice to read about the technical stuff, to find out how he worked, for example, to create the glow behind the words for E.T., he cut out a cardboard for the words and sprayed around them. There are bits of technical talk here and there for the posters.

Overall, this is a well produced, insightful and inspiring artbook.

Highly recommended.

the best movie artbook ever
By ARTBOOK PASSION

What is the common point between Blade Runner, King Lion E.T, Jurassik Park, Batman forever and Star Wars the return of Jedi?
It is all movies which marked the cinema, finally not for Batman Forever, which has almost killed Batman.
No, the real common point, it is because we remember posters cinema of all these movies, for a very good reason, they are the work of a real artist: John Alvin.
Regrettably, John left us in 2008, and 6 years later we have an artbook tribute: The art of John Alvin.

I am not longer going to keep waiting you, The art of John Alvin, is an absolutely magnificent artbook, because he does not make that to present us the most known posters that he realized. Indeed he would have been able to be easy to make an artbook which I would call "catalog".

No, here there is a real work, and on a real one loves for the work, that includes it in a sense because this book was realized by his wife. So we learn on the work of conception and research. I adored seeing in front pages the sheets of paper with the researches for posters for the promotional campaign of Jurassik Park.

The book The art of John Alvin, presents us in the course of 160 pages, posters in a chronological way, from 1974 to 2007 to posters Star Wars Clbration 4. What is brilliant with the work of John, it is that we have a multitude of varied movies, so the fan of Disney will be in seventh heaven with posters of King lion, of Aladdin or another fantastic poster of The Little Mermaid. The fan of Star Wars will not be forgotten with posters of movies, but also convention.

My preference goes particularly to pages dedicated to Jurassik Park, who remains a great moment of cinema for the child fan of dinosaurs whom I was in 1995. I could also speak to you his inimitable style, playing on the light, or still the sketches a lot in black and white for the movie E.T or Willow of a very big wealth. I could speak about height of thing, but I prefer to let you look at the video, and tell you that The art of John Alvin is simply essential for every person who adores the cinema.

Amazing Book, Features Iconic Art by John Alvin
By Susan M. Slopek
My favorite movie posters are the Disney ones from the mid-90s -- the versions used for "adult' marketing. Turns out all of my favorite ones were created by John Alvin.

This book celebrates his work. His career, spanning decades, included work for Disney, MGM, Paramount, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal Studios, and Warner Bros. Inside the pages of The Art of John Alvin, you'll find many examples of the art he created for those studios (and I can't imagine how hard it was to obtain permission to use all of the images!).

This 160 page book includes art from his iconic posters - The Lion King, Blade Runner, and ET, among many others - as well as concept sketches and images previously unavailable for public viewing. The book is broken down by movie in chronological order and includes commentary from his wife Andrea, who offers behind the scenes insights into the creative process.

My favorite images are from the Disney posters, namely Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid (although all the Disney art is stunning). Alvin's use of light in the posters and concept art is the work of a master. The Jurassic Park section is also notable - it contains amazing images that unfortunately weren't used in the movie's marketing campaign. Fans of Star Wars will also be pleased with the selections in the book. In summary: I really love the artwork and my only complaint is that I want MORE!!

Sadly for us, Alvin passed away in 2008. This book at least gives us a chance to peek behind the scenes and see the evolution of his creations. Some fans may even want two copies... one to keep as a book and one to use for images to hang in their house or at work :-)

The Christian's Hope: The Anchor of the Soul, by John W. Schoenheit

What does the Bible really say about Death, Judgment, Rewards, Heaven, and the Future Life on a Restored Earth?

Clean air and pure water. All the land, even deserts, fertile and blooming. Pasturelands full of grazing animals. Rivers and seas teeming with fish. More than enough food for everyone. Starvation and hunger_distant memories. No crime and no war. Every weapon destroyed or converted for domestic use. Safety and security for everyone. Guaranteed justice for all. All animals living together peacefully, even the wolf and the lamb. Lions eating grass like cattle. New bodies for everyone, empowered by a new life force. No sickness or disease. The blind see, the mute talk, and the lame leap like deer. Too good to be true? Not if you
take God's Word for it. According to Jesus Christ, quoting from Psalm 37:11, the meek (those willing to believe God's Word) shall inherit the earth.

The biblical teaching that all saved people will live forever on a recreated and Eden-like earth has been virtually lost for modern Christians. Why? Because in the early centuries of the Christian Church, the doctrine of life on a new earth was replaced by the belief that "heaven" is the eternal dwelling place of those who are saved. The Christian's Hope reaffirms in a straightforward yet well-documented way that the everlasting home of the saved will be on a lush and Eden-like earth. It offers a biblically clear and vividly described glimpse of the glorious destiny that awaits every believer.

God originally planned for mankind to live on earth, and His plan, though postponed by sin, will not be thwarted_it will come to pass in the future when a new earth is created. God describes this future earth in hundreds of verses, and Christ spoke of it in his first recorded sermon, so surely it is important that we understand it properly. Christianity needs to replace the vague ideas about heaven with the concrete and vivid images of the future life that are so abundantly portrayed in Scripture. Only then will Christians become grounded in biblical certainties about the world to come.

Very importantly, The Christian's Hope shows from Scripture that each Christian will be rewarded in the coming world in direct proportion to the quality of how he lives for God in this world. If the believer's vision of the future is clear and certain, he has a much greater possibility of standing like a rock and working faithfully in service to the Lord, despite the pressures and pleasures of this world. Our hope of a better place is to be the anchor of our souls. The Christian's Hope will become a treasured part of any believer's library, and its contents an important source of comfort, peace, and strength.

Millinealism: They are Blinded to a Spiritual Kingdom
By Michael Meyer
Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation but salvation is not the only way to everlasting life.
see my post of thisnreview at : http://www.holyspiritsocialclub.blogspot.com/search/label/Rantings%20in%20Response

A Christian is born of God’s seed, is now body, soul, and spirit. A son by birth. The saints. The body of Christ. Our body, soul, and spirit will be quickened if dead or changed if alive at the rapture. Unconditional eternal life giving spirit beings to reign in the new heaven and the new Earth. Grace Age.

David is not saved yet he will have everlasting life on Earth after the resurrection. Conditional immortal body, soul and an ethereal spiritual connection. As long as they drink from the river of life proceeding out of the throne of God with the tree of life in the midst. Paradise on Earth. Rev 22:1, 2, 17. He is not ascended to heaven. Old testament believers, adopted sons, the bride of Christ, were not spirits in limbo that Christ took to heaven with him. They are dead. The Law Age.

Those who live today who do not hear enough of the word to believe but “worketh righteousness” are accepted with God (Acts 10:35) and will have everlasting life on Earth after the resurrection. Same condition as Old Testament. Not to be confused with the Gathering Together or rapture of those born again in Christ before the great tribulation and resurrection. All the ages.

All the dead are dead until the rapture followed by the resurrection of the just and unjust. Then the second death which is final. They are neither in heaven or a burning hell or anywhere in between. They are dead except one, Jesus Christ.

This was posted in response to The Reward in Heaven on Truth or Tradition web site. As it is no longer available the following links are similar:
Working in the Future Kingdom; What will we be doing in heaven?"

"The New Body: Looking good and feeling fine."

Also: You Must Be Born Again

So what distinguishes the saved in Christ from those who are resurrected unto everlasting life? After all, God says we (in Christ) are sanctified or separated out from among all others (I Coronthians1: 2) and have a glory above all other glories. (2 Corinthians 3:8-11; 1 Corinthians 2:7) What separates us is we will have free reign IN HEAVEN as well as on Earth, as opposed to just on Earth. The verses you mention are written and confined to Israel and those who will inherit the Earth. I’m surprised at how accurately you rightly divide the administrations except for after the return.
Jesus Christ certainly rightly divided the future. When stated by the malefactor on the cross “ Lord remember me when you enter your Kingdom.” Jesus knew that the malefactor could not be with him in his Kingdom (heaven) for he was not born again of God’s spirit by seed. It was not available yet (John 3). Jesus corrected him by saying you have a future with me in Paradise (his kingdom on Earth). Paradise is not heaven. He said to the Pharisees, “where I go you cannot go.” Heaven or paradise. He told Peter and the Apostles you cannot go now but later you can. Because Pentecost and the future gathering together or rapture must take place first.
There are other obvious verses placing us with Christ in heaven. I’m not sure why you chose verses only pertaining to Israel (who are the adopted sons as opposed to sons by birth) regarding a future on Earth. That which is born of Spirit is spirit. It is also raised a spiritual body (1 Corin 15). Surely you don’t really believe spirit beings of light will be bound here on Earth? Partakers of divine nature are not flesh and bone but holy and spiritual. Your interpretation that our body will only be flesh and bone is based on one verse from the resurrected Christ and is a giant leap of assumption. By leap I mean for example when you quote from "The Reward In Heaven" you use 1 Peter 1:4 (reserved in heaven) and Colossians 1: 5 (stored up for you in heaven) and say “Jesus was talking to Jews who knew that they would inherit the Earth” when it was not Jesus but actually Peter and Paul who knew they were talking to those separated into the kingdom of his dear son and the elect who are set apart by way of the spirit. (Col 1;13; 1 Peter 1:2). To lump those verses with the gospels is is not rightly dividing the word as I see it. You use the same technique when claiming that Jesus was flesh and bone only when in truth you said that, not Jesus (Luke 24:39). He said as I have, not I am. Also, he was not yet ascended into his glorious new body. (He was glorified after the ascension John 7:39). Your definition of a spiritual body is that of your own . Because of your interpretation of this verse, the whole premise of this teaching is flawed and not convincing. The article a indicates a spirit, (when used in King James never refers to a Godly spirit) thus being translated ghost or spirit being or a spirit to be afraid of is accurately translated. It’s clear from the context of verse 37 that Jesus was responding according to what they were terrified of and what they supposed they saw when he said ..." for a spirit."

As for Jesus visit with Nicodemus, the book of John is all about Jesus telling of things to come that were not in scripture or clearly understood in the Old Testament. It is also a book about seed and the new birth and being Sons of God by birth, not adoption. “ But as many as received him, to them he gave power to become the Sons of God who were begotten of God, not by flesh and blood of man.” This sets the tone. “Of his fullness have we all received.” Past tense. The Kingdom of God is what he foretold. It came on the Day of Pentecost. We are never told to look for the coming of the Kingdom of God after Pentecost. This notion and teaching that Jesus didn’t know anything pertaining to the mystery is old school from a confined theory in a box. You have to tippy toe around too many verses to still believe that. Eph 3:5 “ …as it (the mystery) is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets.” Jesus was a “prophet” (the prophet according to Jn 7:40) “Now” has been privately interpreted as a window opened only to Paul at that time. Jesus foretold of being born of the spirit,. Jn 3. He reproved Nicodemus for not connecting the miracles he mentioned from the beginning to a man of the Pharisees and not believing in the power of God of the Old Testament as able to perform this new birth. He foretold how to enter the Kingdom of God when it became available was by being born of the spirit, Jn 3:3. He foretold to the woman at the well that in the future God seeks those to worship him in spirit and truth. Jn 4:23, 24 (speaking in tongues). He foretold of receiving the gift of holy spirit and speaking in tongues was the manifestation (in a metaphor) of having received. Jn 7:38, 39. He foretold of his ascension. John 3: 14. He foretold of salvation. Jn 3;16, 17. (saved: to be made whole; having spirit within permanently, eternally). He foretold of being baptized in the spirit. (The new birth). Acts 1:5; Matt 3: 11. He foretold of speaking in tongues. Mark 16: 17.
He foretold how to receive the holy spirit when the time came (Pentecost) by instructing the apostles to breath in when the sign appeared (cloven tongues) . Jn 20:22. He foretold of being one spiritually and glorified. Jn 17. How close to the one body is that? He told to them to go unto the uttermost parts of the world. Adding the gentiles was part of building his church and of the one body. Jesus knew a lot about the mystery. God said “he shall see his seed” at the cross. Isaiah 53: 10. He saw his seed as one glorious distinct and separate spiritual body. God revealed it to him as he proclaimed,

“ My God, my God, this was my destiny.”

Our reign is with Him who openly will share His Heavenly Kingdom reserved for us (1Peter 1:4, 5). Revealed in the last time, eternal in the heavens. That’s the more glorious truth of 2 Corinthians 3: 8, 9 and 1 Corinthians 2:7. I Corin 15 states “To every seed his own body…the glory of the celestial is one the, the glory of the earthly is another.” “Everything after it’s kind” is the Genesis of the Biblical teaching of seed.

Under your Difficult Verses section:
I Corinthians 15:50 You say that “Some people have used this verse to show that each saved person will be spirit instead of flesh and that the saved will not be on earth in the future but in heaven.” Then you say, “ Both of these ideas are erroneous.” Why? Because you say they are? Do they really say they won’t be on earth “also?” Or in addition to being in heaven? No. That’s what you say they say. Why shouldn’t a person conclude what the word says that he will become a ‘spiritual body?” Or “become a life giving spirit?” To build a whole theology around Jesus resurrected appearance stating “ can a spirit have flesh and bone” and “in his glorified body Christ had flesh and bone” is erroneous. How do you know that was his glorified body? Could he have received a glorified body after the ascension? Paul saw him as ‘One born out of due time” after his ascension and said nothing about flesh and bones, therefore I can now declare by my interpretation that he was given a glorified body after the ascension. You conclude in a private interpretation “Therefore flesh can most definitely enter the Kingdom of God.” Let’s throw out all those surrounding verses referring to our “raised a spiritual body” in keeping with our erroneous ideas. The same private interpretation can be said for your quote after 1 Corinthians 15: 51-53 stating “ The above verses say Christians will be changed but not into spirit beings”. Doesn’t say “Christians” first of all, and again no regard for the many clear verses declaring “afterward the spiritual”, or ‘bear the image of the heavenly man” Jesus Christ, calling our attention to the stark difference to Adam who was flesh and bone. If this chapter exhausts itself to distinguish and clarify the difference between spirit and flesh and our heavenly future, I’m surprised by your misinterpretation of what Jesus meant in the context with Thomas?

You state, “The purpose of this study is to show that the future home of the saved is on earth, not in heaven.” The problem is you use the majority of the versus written to the Jews, not the saved. Therefore, based on one scripture (Luke 24: 39) you ‘squeeze’ this viewpoint on all the versus pertaining to a future in heaven as being “erroneous.” Concluding that “if the disciples were not expecting Christ to go to heaven, they certainly would not have thought they were going” because of what he said in Acts 1:6. They weren’t expecting to speak in tongues either. Are we to use your same logic that we’re not really speaking in tongues? Of course they didn’t know about going to heaven. They were Jews! Not yet saved. How many other truths did they not yet know? Several! Because they didn’t know or expect doesn’t negate any of the truths revealed to them later. Including our glorious, uniquely, extremely different, eternal future with Christ in heaven. It’s inconsistent to lump versus that are obviously written to Israel, who definitely are inheriting the earth and not entering the Kingdom of God in heaven, as written to us. How can you rightly divide the administrations regarding to whom it is written properly only to provide at your liberty an exception to join us all together in the end as if there were never any difference?

Jesus was not “refuting the idea he was spirit” as you say but a spirit. We will be given a new body that is fashioned like his “spiritual“ body with or without flesh and bones to soar through the heavens as we please for our citizenship, not a temporary visa, is in heaven. Can we visit Earth? Why not? Can we eat and take hot showers? Why not? To say we are limited to being on Earth with no existence in heaven is nonsense. You just have it backwards. Our temporary visits are in Paradise, our home is in Heaven.

You even teach yourself from The Sacred Secret “ many people think that God always deals with people the same way that he will treat us, but this is not the case, God has something for us that was never done before the Church Age” and “we even ascended with him and are seated with him in heaven, which is exactly where we will be after the rapture.” “Christians will be taken up to heaven to be with Christ.” To say this is only for seven years is another leap of assumption of private interpretation.

I believe you are rightly dividing in that teaching but for some reason you decided to leave heaven for good and retire on Earth. I’ll stick with the word and have both.

Enjoy and appreciate your site and teachings immensely.

Thank you,
Michael Meyer

Thy Kingdom Come
By Seaotter
Deep, thought provoking, hard to put down, but easy to read. John Schoenheit has the ability to take difficult subjects and make them understandable. The author gives the meaning to key Hebrew and Greek words. He ties together all the key doctrines of Scripture, such as an eternal hell, the state of the dead, the kingdom and believer's rewards in it in a well researched manner that exposes the false teaching concerning these subjects that has now become accepted dogma. To the point at times that if you disagree with the so called expert's take on the meaning of these Scriptures you may well be labeled a heretic.

The book's central theme is the eternal kingdom, which is soon coming. It is a main theme in the Old Testament, the Messiah's message and the Epistles. Living in this world's darkness, believers are looking for an eternal city. Thy Kingdom come! This indeed is the believer's hope, the anchor for his soul. The author in an easily understandable way discusses end time prophecy subjects such as the rapture and when it occurs, the seven year tribulation, the thousand year reign and the eternal kingdom.

John has numerous U Tube teaching videos and other books, all of which are excellent. Like this one, his book "God's Gift of Holy Spirit" is a must read.

This puts it all together
By William Jones
If you have studied end times in your Bible and/or read many things about how to understand Revelations and what exactly is going to happen and how the church fits in all this then this book is for you. It is the absolute best book on this topic I have read. Along with this book you should read E W Bullinger - Commentary on Revelation to fill in what this book does not cover. You will come away with a great understanding of how all this works. You will not get this all over night but set some time aside to study. You will be glad you bought this book.

Fear University (Volume 1), by Meg Collett

Bestselling author Meg Collett retells the ancient Filipino legend of the aswang in this sexy, bone-chilling new series.

I've always known I was a monster, and I don't mean some teenage vampire shit either.

My mother abandoned me when I was ten years old because I have a freakish mutant disease that makes me incapable of feeling pain. I bounced from one foster family to another because too many people like to test my medical condition in a game of "Try To Make Ollie Scream." At sixteen, I killed a man for taking that game too far.

Two years later, I'm still on the run in Kodiak, Alaska. Here, I'm the most dangerous person around, until I come face to face with a creature that should only exist in folklore. The monster is an aswang, and I, with my medical anomaly, am uniquely qualified to hunt the beast that haunts the night. At least, that's what the two scarred, mostly crazy 'swang hunters tell me when they kidnap me and take me to Fear University, a school where young students learn to hunt and kill aswangs.

I arrive at the university a prisoner, but I stay because I finally find my freedom.

For once in my life, I belong. I'm needed. I make a home for myself inside the university masquerading as an old Alaskan prison. Something close to happiness warms my icy heart when I'm with my scarred, still mostly crazy tutor, Luke Aultstriver. For a murdering runaway like me, Fear University is a haven where I can put my skills to good use hunting monsters in the night.

But when certain truths come to light and even more lies are exposed, I fear that I, Ollie Andrews, am the worst kind of monster of all. And, maybe, they should be hunting me.

Read if you dont mind spoilers and an honest review of this book and the second book......
By Amazon Customer
I give this book one star, only because it starts out a good book. But by the time you get to the end, and to the second book, the killing season, its no longer a paranormal romance. Its about torture, abuse, almost hardcore s&m stuff. If you like reading about ALOT OF VIOLENCE, TORTURE, ABUSE, about characters who are sadomasochistic, obsessed with violence and death. If you are sure to be bored, yet simultaneously absolutely horrified, by the level of torture, distrust, manipulation, sheer pain, this book, and the ones after, will put you through, then go ahead and read it. If youre a stephen king/horror fan/sadomasochist yourself, you will be delighted by all the pain, drama, mental anguish, murderous thoughts, with deeds to match, and your ability to empathize will eventually run out for the female lead character, simply because the torture, the betrayal, the pain, never seems to end for her. I could barely get through the second book, towards the end, because theres a scene between her and MAX, that guy who messed her up so much when she was younger. You know the one, the guy who, along with his father, took her, and another little girl, and basically did unspeakable things to them in a basement, after which he made the female lead dig her and the little girls grave, except ollie didnt die? She escaped, after bashing the father in the head and killing him. Well, after finding out totally untrue things about her mother, and her father, in the second book, ollie gets to revisit her time with max. Max tortures her again, for about 3 days, i think, before someone finally rescues her, then makes a statement about how the rescuers werent supposed to leave her long enough for the guy to "break her," because "ollie volkova doesnt break!" So her "resuers" let max have her for a little while so he could cut her up good. Oh, and did i happen to mention how max breaks her? He ties her hands to the ceiling, her feet to the floor, securely. He feeds her aswang saliva so she will feel all the pain he inflicts on her, and cuts her up, shallow little cuts everywhere, blood dripping down her body, puddles on the floor, a real "Carrie" movie look to it. Then, he uses a weapon to hold her chin up from her chest, with thorns in it, so she cant lower her head, and the thorns cut into her chest, 3 inches, exposing her bones and her heart. The story ends where luke finally finds out what she is and cant decide if he loves her enough not to kill her. This is after he finds out what she went through with max, and all the bloody, gory, freakish details about his own family. Just a real messed up series. I havent read the third one, dont plan on it. But if you could read all that stuff i wrote, and still want to read the books, then these books are right up your alley. As i said, if you like pain, torture, abuse, betrayal, manipulation, psychopathic and sociopathic tendencies, obsessions with death, sadomasochism, and a thinly disguised attempt at writing a paranormal romance novel, then enjoy. But, if you arent desensitized to those things yet, then you might want to skip this series. But if you read it anyways, after i warned you, and, like me, wish you could take back the hours, not to mention the nearly $10, you spent on these books, then dont say i didnt warn you. Youre on your own......

Too bad the heroine is chewed up and spit out so much. Seems like the person she started out to be, the person she is, down deep, wants to be loved, but just cant seem to catch a break. She wants to be good, but the people around her only want to mold her, for their own selfish reasons, into a super soldier of some sort. Its really sad. It mirrors life too much. The poor girl had been through too much and her pain just wont end. It could have been a really good series if the author had just realized theres a point to which a character, a story, can go, before the reader, and the whole book, becomes just too much violence and pain. The right reader will put the book down in disgust, and simple heartbreak, for the heroine, who seems like she will never be saved from her endless torment. I cant read about it anymore.

Fear University
By Maria T
Forget werewolves and vampires in this world it's all about the 'swangs. Wondering what they are? So is Ollie because it appears she just killed one! And then there's the guys who won't tell her anything, but make decisions for her like she'll just go along with them. Wrong on so many levels, but sometimes you can't fight physically, soon after Ollie finds out the truth but begins to realize there are many different versions of it. Who can she trust and can she handle finding out the ultimate truth. About herself?

From a young age Ollie was sent from one foster home to another because people were either too freaked out by her condition or they liked testing her a bit too much. Not being able to feel pain might sound cool but she would give anything to just be normal and have a family that actually wants her.

When she finds herself at Fear University she may have finally found it, but if it looks too good to be true.... Well then she just needs to figure out what is going on before it gets her killed, or worse.

Ollie might have a smart mouth, but she chooses what she says carefully and listens even more. She hears and sees things most would overlook making her smart and definitely my kind of character. She is no damsel in distress, but will use whatever she can to save herself.

This is book one in a new series I'll definitely be following. The world was created so well you feel like you're right there with the characters, living Ollie's life alongside her. Great paranormal read with an interesting monster twist!

If you like creepy dudes treating women like crap and being sadistic look no further!!
By Wackysprockets
This book is dreadful. Not thought out at all. No one is that sadistic. This book is creepy. You might like it, if you like strong women being abused. If you read anything about someone with that sort of of pain blocking disorder, you would know trainers have to be extra careful to not damage them permanently, because the trainee can't tell and will become crippled. Then the creepy sadistic main man Luke just stabs her...for no reason...or cause she talked back...and she feels SMALL? Then she just limps to class like its embarrassing she was stabbed, and no one thinks its odd or arrests the crazy dude!? I hate books like this, its just wrong, wrong against humanity, and it was also poorly researched and ugly. Unless your into thinking women deserve being treated like this, then this book is for you. I wish I could wash my mind out with soap to get the psycho subversive demeaning crap out of my head. On Christmas eve too :(. Watch out for the fake reviews...almost all of them.

Edit: Keeping it classy.

Whoa Wagamama!
By Mr. D
Wagamama is a Japanese-like restaurant I frequented while living in London. After going through withdrawals when I returned to California, I came across this cookbook. It is so good that you would not believe my review if I really, honestly wrote of how much I enjoy their food. The noodle dishes are best! For those of you who have not tried the food at Wagamama, think of simple and fresh ingredients tossed together in non-traditional ways. The recipes in this book are pretty easy and my limited skills in the kitchen are enough to make great meals.

Translated for Americans!
By M. Sher
While Wagamama restaraunts are mostly known to those who have been to London, this cookbook is made for an American audience. They include cup and spoon measures, say shrimp instead of prawns, cillantro not corriander, snow peas not mange tout. However, the DVD that comes with it is of minimal use if you have any experience with stir-fry and they use British words. A great book for anyone wanting some slightly westernized Asian dishes, as well as those anglophiles longing for London. (Note: Not all the menu dishes are included. My favorite, chicken katsu curry is not in the book).

Wagamama Cookbook
By Spider Monkey
This `Wagamama Cookbook' is a very attractive and well thought out selection of recipes from this well known restaurant chain.

This has information about setting up your Asian inspired kitchen and what things you may need and then sections covering Sauces Dips and Dressings, Side Dishes, Chicken, Fish, Meat, Vegetables, Salads, Desserts and Juices and Drinks. The vast majority of recipes have accompanying photos to both inspire you and give you an approximation of how the dish should look. Use it as a guide only as cooking is an organic, personal process. I have tried many of these recipes and still love the classic Yaki Soba and Ebi Yakitori. One of my favourites, and one I suggest you try, is Salmon Korroke, which are like Japanese Salmon Croquettes and very delicious indeed.

A new style of cooking will always require some practise, but once you get the hang of the ingredients and techniques these dishes are very easy to rustle up, taste delicious and are usually quite healthy. Most ingredients can be found in large supermarkets, but some specialised ingredients may need to be sourced from an Asian/Japanese market, if you live near London I recommend the Japan Centre in regents street.

This may be a slightly polished advertisement for the restaurant and there are plenty of pictures of happy staff and customers inside, but when the recipes are this good and the food so tasty I can overlook this and really enjoy using this book in the kitchen. If you are looking for a sushi book then try the Yo Sushi book which offers both sushi and noodle dishes, but both books would compliment each other very well and offer a good introduction to this style of cuisine.

Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.
