The Depraved Club series is becoming my favorite.

Bane and Ava's story begins as Ava has been taken hostage. She is given to Bane. She fights Bane most of the way through the book, but when she realizes she might lose him, her true feelings come to light.
I love the Depraved Club books. The grammar and spelling are perfect. They aren't quick reads. They actually have a plot to them. I highly recommend this series of books.

Sorry, but this book seemed just plain silly to me. First it starts out, like girl gets job with billionaire's company, great, I like those kind of books! Then, when she thinks she's going traveling with the billionaire, like the next day, she ends up in an underground dog fighting club with human death matches thrown in. Like, whoa! where did this come from! She ends up being held captive because billionaire owes MC club money. So he just throws her to the club for payment and leaves! End of my billionaire story. Now we move onto sex trafficing and a MC club that runs it all. what a mess! Sorry, can't recommend.

I got this as a free book. To be honest to myself I can't give it more then 1 star. It was just too silly. The whole book seemed like a few books tossed together. SPOILERS... We've got this great job for the heroine & next she is owned by this so called MC club over a debt. Now this MC club owns a huge building & has a sex slaves, dog fights & a sex club and more. Fight to the death matches with axes etc. The heroine refuses to tell the Hero her name as if that matters since he is her only chance at escaping. Of course she tries to keep escaping when there is noway to get out unless he helps her. I don't like animal abuse so that was the 1st thing that got me turned off. Than the death matches. Where did the MC get rid of all these bodies? The Hero seemed like a nice guy who didn't want this for his MC club. The heroine was not a crybaby but there was just no realism for a MC book for me. You may like it, I didn't. Sorry to give it one star but I didn't sleep well after reading this. I can read dark but this book just was too unrealistic to me & yes I know it is fiction but there was just too much of it for me.

About the Author
Andrew J. DuBrin is Professor Emeritus of Management in the E. Philip Saunders College of Business at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he served as department chairman and team leader. Dr. DuBrin has taught courses and conducted research in leadership, management, organizational behavior, and career management. He presents at other colleges, career schools, and universities. He received his Ph.D. in Industrial Psychology from Michigan State University. Dr. DuBrin has experience in human resource management and is a business and personal consultant in career management, leadership, and management development. Dr. DuBrin is an established author of both textbooks and trade books, and he contributes to professional journals, magazines, newspapers, and online media. He has written textbooks on management, leadership, organizational behavior, human relations, political behavior in organizations, and impression management. His trade books address management issues from charisma, team play, and office politics to overcoming career self-sabotage, and coaching and mentoring.

Dr. DuBrin is a master!

I just finished a 10 week course with Dr. DuBrin and this book was wonderful. It is written in a very easy-to-understand manner, yet still explains the basics of Organizational Behavior. The book is easy reading, but uses lots of real life examples, so it keeps your interest. Good job Dr. DuBrin!

Extremely useful guide

As noted in previous reviews and comments, this guide is extremely useful. It is useful as a plant guide in its intended region (and surrounding regions likely) and also as a general model for how to construct plant guides that are useful. Its key features are good organization of plants by features to identify them, inclusion of BOTH line drawings and photographs of each species, inclusion of numerous types of plants (grasses, mosses, etc) rather than only 'wildflowers' like so many less useful guides, and well-done and interesting descriptions of the plants (including ethnobotany information, such as how humans have used the plants). Among plant guides, this simply has been one of the most useful purchases I have made. Also, the publisher (Lone Pine) has published guides for some other regions. This publisher's guides generally are among the best, as many of them contain the excellent features listed above. The utility of having both a line drawing and a photograph of a species to identify it cannot be understated.

Review of Forest Plants of Central Ontario

I used this plant guide in Killarney Provincial Park (Ontario) and found it useful for identifying major plant species of the area. This guide is interesting because it includes both a photograph and a line drawing of each plant featured in the guide. Plants are divided into lifeforms (e.g., shrub) and descriptions of each plant within a lifeform are contained in a separate section of the guide. The keys for plant identification are not detailed, but the objective of this book is to provide a simple, non-technical guide for plant identification. The authors meet this objective. For more detailed plant identification, a technical botanical guide (Michigan Flora by Ed Voss) probably should be used instead of Forest Plants of Central Ontario. I recommend Forest Plants of Central Ontario as an interesting, non-technical guide for identifying major plant species of the region. It is appropriate for more advanced botanists as a handy field guide and is also appropriate for investigators who have no formal botanical training but who want to quickly learn to identify plants.

From trees to liverworts in one book

This book covers a small area of Eastern North America, so it is easier to identify plants that you might find in say the Ottawa Valley, without ploughing through all the plants that only occur further south. It includes trees, shrubs, herbs, grasses, sedges & rushes, ferns & allies, mosses & liverworts and lichens, all in one book. For the non-botanist this is the best book for this area (including West Quebec). Unlike other wildflower books that concentrate on flowers, this shows and describes leaves and fruits, making identification easier at times when there are no flowers. Charts and keys at the start of each section help in identification.

Excellent work, but parts of it may need an instructor's guidance

I used an earlier edition of this fine book some years ago in teaching a college-level history of rock and roll, and the only reason I give it four rather than five stars is the obscene price. Stuessy's aim in writing the book was not just to introduce the history of rock and roll, but to introduce students to the various elements of music (melody, harmony, rhythm, timbre) and of musical formal structures: these items are covered in detail, relating to the music of the appropriate chapter, in end-of-chapter supplements. In other words, Stuessy is trying in part to promote musical literacy among people who do not take a more traditional class in "music appreciation." I would not expect that many people without some formal musical training could make complete sense of the supplements, but it is a textbook, not a self-help manual, and I had great success with the book in class. The main text, however, is independent of the more technical supplements, and can be read as an excellent and insightful history of rock and roll.

Incomplete

This book has a publication date of 2008, and while it thoroughly covers the history of rock music through the 1980's, it's very unfortunate that it does not provide significant coverage of the last two decades. The 00's are almost over, and there have been significant changes to rock over the past two decades that deserve much greater coverage.

There is barely any coverage of the grunge era, and little or no coverage of the post-grunge era, the fusion of metal and hip-hop (Linkin Park, Rage Against the Machine, Papa Roach), the new alternative metal scene of the 00's (Disturbed, Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle), the re-emergence of punk and the new genres it has spurred (emo, new garage rock, pop-punk), the fusion of rock music with dance (Finger Eleven, Good Charlotte), or the thorough history and maturing of rap and hip hop. The last two decades have provided a very rich history of developments in rock music and should be covered if you are going to claim to provide a "complete" history of rock music through 2008. Rock music does not just cover the "60s, 70s, 80s, and today." "Today" should not be inclusive of the 90s and 00s, for each decade deserves its own unique chapter in the history of the most advanced form of popular music in the history of the world.

Most Comprehensive Book on Data Visualization in d3.js

D3.js in Action is the most comprehensive book on data visualization out there and definitely a must have for both beginners and seasoned veterans. This book goes through almost every conceivable type of visualization you would want to do in d3 while going into heavy detail about the logic, implementation and reasoning behind why to use each type of visualization. Other books out there will give you a few examples with light details that you can find on the internet but where this book truly shines is that it teaches you how to visualize data that's meaningful for the user while teaching you about every single feature in a very concise manner. This book is heavy on the code and heavy on the diagrams which makes it a great place to learn from scratch or to use as a reference. I've gone through all of the other d3 books out there (Interactive Data Visualization for the Web, d3 Cookbook and Mastering d3js) and this one is the best by far because the other books are much too introductory, once you go through it once you'll never use it again as a reference but this book has so much detail that you'll keep on using it even when you become much more advanced.

A useful and helpful overview of the D3.js library, with good how-to details, examples and technical explanations

The D3.js library is very powerful and full of useful choices and possibilities. But, you should not try to tackle Elijah Meeks's new book if you are a newcomer who has not yet gotten fairly comfortable with JavaScript, HTML, CSS and JSON. It also helps to understand how CSVs (Comma Separated Values) can be used. And you should know how to set up and run a local web server on your computer. However, prior knowledge of D3.js and SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) is not necessary.

Some reviewers have remarked on the amount of how-to and technical information packed into D3.js in Action. It is indeed impressive. And, yes, it really can seem like the concepts, details and examples are being squirted at you from a fire hose, particularly if you are attempting to race through the text. As Elijah Meeks has pointed out: "[T]he focus of this book is on a more exhaustive explanation of key principles of the library."

So plan to take your time. Tackle D3.js in small bites, using the d3js.org website, this text and other sources. I am pretty new to learning data visualization, and I definitely had never heard of visualizations such as Voronoi diagrams, nor tools such as TopoJSON, until I started working my way through this book. And those are just a few of the available possibilities.

Like most of the other reviewers, I have not yet tried all of the code examples. But the ones I have tested have worked very well, and they have gotten me thinking about how I can adapt them to use in some of my work. I am a bit disappointed that the book takes 40 pages to get to the requisite "Hello, world" examples. And once you arrive, the explanations likely will seem a bit murky and incomplete to some readers.

However, that is a minor complaint. D3.js in Action definitely is a book that will live on my ready-reference shelf and get frequent use as I dig deeper into data visualization. D3.js and Elijah Meeks's new book are keepers for the long term.

An Excellent Guide to D3.js

I bought this book as someone who doesn’t have much experience with web programming. While D3.js in Action doesn’t give you the ground-floor introduction to web development, HTML and CSS that Scott Murray’s Interactive Data Visualization for the Web provides, D3.js in Action does give a nice overview of the basics of HTML5, SVG, CSS and JavaScript. But unlike Murray’s book, D3.js in Action goes into much more detail about the intricate parts of D3 (for instance, Chapter 7 is dedicated to mapping). As my D3 skills improve, I look forward to digging deeper into D3.js in Action.

About the Author

Dr. Jose Galizia Tundisi obtained his PhD (Estuaries Ecology, 1969) at the University of S�o Paulo/University of Southampton and his DSc (Ecology, 1977) at the University of S�o Paulo. He is President of the International Institute of Ecology in S�o Carlos, Brazil. He was previously a Full Professor of Biological Sciences, Federal University of S�o Carlos, 1972-84; Full Professor of Environmental Sciences, University of S�o Paulo, 1984-94; and President, Brazilian of the National Research Council, 1995-99. His awards include the Gold Medal “Augusto Ruschi”,�Brazilian Academy of Sciences, 1986; the Moinho Santista Prize in Ecology, 1992; the Highest Brazilian Award for scientific achievement; the Boutros Ghali Prize for Environment and Development, UN, 1995; and the Commendador, Brazilian Government. He is a Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, the S�o Paulo Academy of Sciences, and the Ecology Institute, “Excellence in Biology”, in Germany. Dr. Tundisi is the founder and director of the International Institute of Ecology in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Dr. Takako Matsumura Tundisi graduated in Natural History and received her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (Zoology) from the University of S�o Paulo, Brazil. She was a lecturer and researcher in Aquatic Ecology at the Federal University of S�o Carlos for over two decades. Today, she is a director of the International Institute of Ecology (IIE) and of the International Association of Ecology and Environmental Management (IIEGA) in Brazil, both research and consulting organizations that have developed numerous research projects in water resources management and water quality through mathematical modeling.

VERY DISAPPOINTING

This lecture was originally recorded at one of Mrs. Ponder's weekend seminars and made available on cassette tapes. I have enjoyed the cassette tapes for years, and bought this MP3 thinking that her cassettes had been transferred to MP3 format.

WRONG!!!

First of all, the MP3 starts with Track 3. There are no Track 1 or Track 2, so you don't even get the whole program.

Second, Catherine Ponder herself is nowhere on the MP3. The voice is someone else reading a script, and this person is certainly not a professional actress or voiceover artist. The MP3 has an unnamed woman with an annoying monotone voice that has no emotion, no inflection, and quickly becomes very annoying to listen to.

Marketing this MP3 as Catherine Ponder, with a graphic of Mrs. Ponder on the front of the CD, seems very misleading to me. The product is a huge disappointment, and I would strongly recommend tracking down a copy of the original cassettes instead.

This is obviously a DIY job taken from some old tapes of her lectures. What a service to humanity. Her Alabama accent is precious. A true southern christian belle. Her message will elevate you to new heights.
